Tight Bounds on Expected Time to Add Correctly and Add Mostly Correctly

چکیده
We consider the problem of adding two n-bit numbers which are chosen independently and uniformly at random where the adder is a circuit of AND, OR, and NOT gates of fan-in two. The fastest currently known worst-case adder has running time logn +O( p logn) [Khr]. We rst present a circuit which adds at least 1 fraction of pairs of numbers correctly and has running time log log ( n ) +O( p log log ( n )). We then prove that this running time is optimal. Next we present a circuit which always produces the correct answer. We show this circuit adds two n-bit numbers from the uniform distribution in expected 1 2 logn+ O( p logn) time, a speed up factor of two over the best possible running time of a worst-case adder. We prove that this expected running time is optimal. Computer Science Division, UC Berkeley, CA 94720. Supported by NSF grant number CCR-9201092. y Computer Science Division, UC Berkeley, CA 94720. A Tight Bounds for Asynchronous Renaming1
This paper presents the first tight bounds on the time complexity of shared-memory renaming, a fundamental problem in distributed computing in which a set of processes need to pick distinct identifiers from a small namespace. We first prove an individual lower bound of Ω(k) process steps for deterministic renaming into any namespace of size sub-exponential in k, where k is the number of partici...
متن کاملThe New Design and Simulation of an Optical Add Drop Filter Based On Hexagonal Photonic Crystal Single Ring Race Track Resonator
In this paper, using annular resonator we have designed an adding and dropping filter light based ontwo-dimensional photonic crystals. The shape of ring resonator filter adding and dropping that wehave proposed is Race Track. This filter has a hexagonal lattice structure of silicon bars withrefractive index 3/46 that is located in the context of air with refractive index 1. Transmissionefficien...
متن کاملRefolding Process of Cysteine-Rich Proteins: Chitinase as a Model
Background: Recombinant proteins overexpressed in E. coli are usually deposited in inclusion bodies. Cysteines in the protein contribute to this process. Inter- and intra- molecular disulfide bonds in chitinase, a cysteine-rich protein, cause aggregation when the recombinant protein is overexpressed in E. coli. Hence, aggregated proteins should be solubilized and allowed to refold to obtain nat...
متن کاملBiotransformation of AD and ADD using Nostoc muscorum
The potential of microalgae for steroid transformation has been studied less than other microorganisms. They have been applied for the years in the treatment of environmental pollutions and preparation of nutrients. At the first time, Abul-Hajj and Qian indicated the conversion of androstendione (AD) to testosterone with eleven different strains of microalgae. Previtera’s group showed the trans...
متن کاملA study on needed or unneeded ReDosimetry and Recomissioning of a linac with Add on MLC by Comparing Dosimetric Data
Introduction: Today different uses of multileaf collimators(MLC) in different techniques of radiotherapy are common. Due to the use of this facility it is possible to have maximum radiation dose to target volumes and minimum radiation dose to critical tissues surronding treatment volumes. But there are numerouse Linear accelerators in IRAN without MLC. Because of high price of...
